More than 80,000 students in San Diego County face food insecurity—meaning when the school week ends, so does their most reliable access to meals. These children come from every community and every school district. Many head into the weekend uncertain if they will have enough to eat.
On May 7, 2026, Got Your back San Diego, local JustServe High school Clubs and The Helpers, are inviting you to take part in an eye-opening, interactive experience that brings these realities to life.
The Oxfam Hunger Banquet® is not just an event—it’s an experience.
For over 50 years, this nationally recognized program has helped more than 950,000 participants better understand hunger and economic inequality. Through a simple but powerful format, guests gain a firsthand perspective on how income impacts access to food.
Upon arrival, each guest will randomly draw a ticket assigning them to a high-, middle-, or low-income group, reflecting real-world economic distribution. Each group receives a meal that corresponds to their assigned income level—offering a meaningful glimpse into the daily realities faced by millions.
Food insecurity is not someone else’s problem—it’s happening right here in San Diego County.
